Build an app with Creatio AI app development toolkit

Level: beginner

Create a complete Creatio app by describing it in plain language. The coding agent works like a business analyst: it clarifies your requirements, prepares a business plan for your approval, and then builds the app in your Creatio environment.

The business plan describes the app in business terms and includes the following parts:

Part

Description

Business outcome

The business problem, the expected result, and the assumptions the agent made.

Roles and permissions

The users of the app, their responsibilities, access, and the navigation placement.

Object model

The objects, fields, lookups, and relationships between them.

Lifecycle and statuses

The statuses of records and the transitions between them.

Business logic

Validations, calculations, and automated behavior.

UX expectations

List pages, form pages, and the fields and components they show.

Analytics

Dashboards for sections and the home page of the app.

Edge cases and exceptions

Situations that need special handling.

After the plan, the agent adds the technical implementation handoff: the technical details it needs to build the app.

Prerequisites

  • A coding agent with Creatio AI app development toolkit set up. Learn more: Set up Creatio AI app development toolkit.
  • A Creatio environment where you can create apps, and its connection details: URL, username, and password. We recommend using a development environment. Learn more: Environment overview.
  • A description of the app: what business problem it solves, who uses it, and what data it stores.

If your security policy prohibits sharing credentials with an LLM, connect to the Creatio environment through Clio before you start. The agent then uses this connection, and you do not need to add credentials to the conversation. Learn more: Set up Creatio instance for working with Clio (vendor documentation).

Build the app

Important

Approve the business plan before construction begins. The agent creates nothing in Creatio until you approve.

  1. Open your coding agent and start a new session.

  2. Describe the app in business terms. The agent uses the creatio-app-orchestrator skill automatically when you ask it to create an app or a section. To make sure the agent uses the toolkit, you can mention the skill in your request.

    For example:

Create a Customer requests app. A simple Customer requests app is a lightweight tool for managing customer requests. It enables users to create and maintain a list of requests, update their status, and manage request details throughout their lifecycle.

You can also add the connection details of your Creatio environment to the request right away. Otherwise, the agent asks for them after you approve the plan. The more details you give, the fewer questions the agent asks.

  3. Answer the clarification questions. The agent shows a short "What I understood" summary and asks the critical business questions in one batch. The agent makes reasonable assumptions for minor details and lists them in the plan.

For a new app or a new section, the agent always asks where to place the app in the navigation and who must see it. For example, you can choose a new workplace named after the app or an existing workplace. If you skip this decision, only users with the "System administrators" role can open the app.

  4. Review the business plan that the agent presents in the conversation. Check that the plan reflects your requirements and that every assumption is correct. If something is missing or wrong, describe the change, and the agent updates the plan.

  5. Approve the plan.

  6. Provide the connection details of your Creatio environment if you did not add them to the request. For example:

    Use the following Creatio environment:
    URL: https://your-site.creatio.com
    Username: <your-username>
    Password: <your-password>
  7. After the agent completes building the app, review its report. The agent creates the app and its sections one by one, then adds objects, pages, logic, navigation, and analytics. Some operations take up to a minute, and the agent reports its progress.

  8. After you log out and log in to Creatio, check the app: its sections, pages, workplace, and dashboards. Navigation is cached, so you need to log in again to see the new workplace.

As a result, the app is in your Creatio environment and available to the users you chose. You can keep developing the app in the same toolkit workspace.

Watch for deviations from the process

If you notice any of these signs, point the agent to the discrepancy:

  • The agent started building before you approved the business plan.
  • The agent showed only a summary of the plan or a link to a file instead of the full business plan in the conversation.
  • The plan does not include the navigation placement or analytics.
  • The agent placed the app in the navigation without asking you.

Tips for working with the agent

For targeted changes to an existing app, for example, adding a field, the agent skips the business plan and applies the change right away.

We recommend giving the agent full execution permissions. Otherwise, the agent asks you to confirm each operation.

If you use Codex, use Plan mode to review and answer the agent's questions. Other coding agents might work differently. We also recommend turning on notifications in your coding agent, so you know when the agent is waiting for your input.

If something is unclear, stop the agent at any time and ask it what it is doing and why. For example, if a task takes longer than expected, the agent might need more instructions.

We recommend reading the official documentation for your coding agent. Learn more: Claude Code (official vendor documentation), Codex (official vendor documentation).
