Cookies and browser storage in live web tracking

Live web tracking connects multiple visits into a single visitor story, so it must recognize the same browser over time. To do this, Creatio uses one cookie and two values stored in the visitor's browser. They hold technical identifiers only and contain no name, email address, IP address, user agent, page URL, or behavioral data. This article describes what each of them stores, for how long, and what you need to have in place before you turn on live web tracking. Learn more about the functionality: Live web tracking.

Tracking cookie

Parameter

Value

Name

_crt_mc

Purpose

Assigns the browser a randomly generated visitor identifier. This lets Creatio recognize the same browser across visits, including before the visitor becomes a known contact.

Set by

Lead Generation app.

Where it applies

Creatio landing pages and external websites connected to live web tracking.

Value

Persisted, encrypted identity cookie. Creatio issues the identifier server-side and does not derive it from any visitor attribute.

Data collected

None. Creatio generates every value server-side, and the browser only stores and returns it. Page JavaScript cannot read or write the cookie, and Creatio does not copy visitor input or browser properties into it.

Storage period

The cookie has no expiration date. It remains in the browser until the visitor removes it, for example, by clearing their browsing data.

Values stored in the browser

Live web tracking also stores the following values in the local storage (localStorage) of the visitor's browser on your website domain:

  • crt:web-tracking:<resourceId>:tenant-id stores the identifier of your Creatio tenant. Creatio saves it once the tracking session is established and includes it in the identification data of every tracking request.
  • crt:web-tracking:<resourceId>:session-id stores the visitor session identifier the same way.

<resourceId> is the identifier of the tracked resource that you configure in Creatio. The tenant ID is also available on the page via window.crtWebTracking.getTenantId().

Where the tracking data is stored

Creatio stores the captured activity, that is, web sessions and web actions, in your Creatio instance and displays it on the contact page. Creatio does not apply a specific retention period to this data. You can delete the records manually or using Creatio automation tools.

Cookie consent

Live web tracking starts to capture activity as soon as the tracking script runs on the page. To run the script only after a visitor accepts cookies, connect it to your cookie consent tool:

  • External websites. Control the tracking script using the consent scripts that you already run on your website.
  • Creatio landing pages. Add your consent script on the Add script tab of the landing page.
Important

Live web tracking runs on your websites and collects data about your visitors for you. Creatio provides the functionality but does not access or process collected data for Creatio analytics or for any purpose other than making the functionality work for you.

Before you turn on live web tracking, make sure that:

  • Your privacy policy covers the tracking cookie and the browser storage described above and gives you the right to use them.
  • Your website implements the cookie acceptance technology required by the laws that apply to you, and live web tracking runs in line with the consent your visitors give.
