Subscription management

note

This functionality is available in the Email Marketing app for Creatio 10.0 and later. Creatio applies subscriptions in the Freedom UI Contacts and Bulk emails sections.

In Creatio, you can record a separate subscription for each kind of communication you send, so a contact who opts out of one email type keeps receiving the rest. Creatio stores the channel, the content type, and the delivery address of each subscription, and lets marketers brand the pages recipients use to manage them.

Subscription types and channels

A subscription connects a contact to a single kind of communication and records whether the contact agreed to receive it. Every subscription holds the following data:

  • Channel. The medium that delivers the communication. Creatio provides the "Bulk Email" channel out of the box.
  • Subscription type. The kind of content the contact receives. Creatio provides the "All," "Newsletter," "Focus email," "Information material," and "Invitation" types out of the box. Add your own types in the Subscription type lookup.
  • Status. The contact's decision about this communication: "Subscribed" or "Unsubscribed."
  • Delivers to. The address that receives this specific communication. For example, you can deliver newsletters to a contact's personal address and focus emails to their work address. Creatio fills this in from the contact's email address when you leave it empty.

The "All" subscription type is reserved for the channel as a whole. Creatio creates a subscribed "All" record for the "Bulk Email" channel every time you add a contact, which makes new contacts available for bulk emails from the start.

Subscriptions of a contact

The Subscriptions tab of a contact page holds the Omnichannel subscriptions expansion panel. It lists every channel and subscription type recorded for that contact, together with the status and the delivery address of each one. Check the panel before you reach out to a contact to see exactly which communications they accept, instead of relying on a single flag for the entire contact.

You can also add a subscription to the panel manually. For example, add a "Newsletter" subscription after a contact tells your team by phone that they want to receive your newsletter.

How Creatio applies subscriptions to a bulk email

When Creatio builds the audience of a bulk email, it checks the contact's subscriptions in two tiers. The "All" subscription sets the default for the entire channel, and a subscription for the email's own type overrides that default. For example, a contact subscribed to "All" and unsubscribed from "Newsletter" keeps receiving every other email type. The reverse works the same way: a contact unsubscribed from "All" who later subscribes to "Focus email" receives focus emails.

Creatio applies subscriptions to bulk messages sent from Freedom UI sections. Until a contact has subscription data, Creatio delivers the message to the contact's primary address.

Subscription center

Recipients manage their subscriptions on two pages they open from your bulk email: the unsubscribe page, where they opt out of all communications, and the preferences page, where they pick the subscription types they keep. The Subscription center section is where you set the wording, brand color, and company logo of both pages and publish them, so recipients recognize your company while they manage their email subscriptions. A rebrand or a change of wording stays in your hands, without a request to your customization team.
